
Tony Atienza
Director
Tony Atienza earned his Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance at the University of California, Irvine. While in the L.A. area, he was a singer/dancer for The Young Americans from 1985-1989. In 1989 he became the co-director/choreographer of the Young Americans. He has done commercials, local musical theatre productions and local dinner theatres in L. A.
Major tours include: France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan (3 month tour to Osaka, Tokyo, Sendai, Hiroshima and Sapporo). In the U.S. he has performed in New York, Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, Arizona, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas and throughout Southern California.
He attended San Diego State University pursuing his Masters Degree in Conducting. At SDSU, he was an adjunct professor and the Assistant Conductor of the Choral Music Department. He is currently an adjunct professor at Southwestern College teaching piano and musical theater. He is a certified choral adjudicator for the Southern California Vocal Music Association and will be a choral judge in New York for FAME's 2007 national show choir competition.
He came to Chula Vista High School in 1993 to be the director of The Main Attraction. In 1995 he founded the “Southern California Show-Choir Invitational” which has become the most prestigious show-choir competition on the west coast! Under his direction his award-winning show-choirs have traveled to: San Francisco, Hawaii, Toronto, Niagara Falls, New York, Orlando, Bahamas, London, England and Paris, France, including performed in 3 out of the 5 Disney properties in the world!
His musical directing credits include: Guys and Dolls, Into the Woods, Good News, The Wiz, Grease and just recently at Southwestern College The Rocky Horror Show in 2006!
